Prophets and their Infallibility

img_article Prophets are sent down as guiding stars which show the way to human being in a turbulent world with sins. The duty resides on their shoulders to show the people how do they lead a virtuous life and there fore they are sinless people. How do the people follow their footprints when they run away from the spirit of instruction they entitled to drive home among the human being? How can they be typical and exemplary? How do we approve even their claim of prophet hood. This is a matter to be pondered over. In a nutshell their being infallible, is closely inter related to the credibility of their claim of prophet hood.
Islamic canons throw light on their holiness and sinless ness. Qur'an says 'Indeed thou art upon a noble disposition (Surat Al Qalam 4). Good character is the grand total of all good qualities and this term hardly deserves

to a man who commits mistakes every now and then.

The Quranic verse points out :
We donated him Ishaque and Ya'qoob. We showed the way to all. Before him (before Ibrahim) we guided Noah as well as Dawood, Sulaiman, Ayyob, Yusuf, Moosa, Haroon among (Ibrahims) sons. Such like (as we provided them with reward) we shall offer rewards to the pious people. Zakariyya, Yahya, Isa, Ilyas(we showed them the right path) are among the righteous people. Isma'eel, Alyasau, Yunus, Luth (We led them to the right way) we made them nobler than all others. Once they practice polytheism, all their deeds will be relegated to nothingness. That is Allah, guiding the way. He show it to those whom he selects from the, (Al An-am-84, 85, 86,88)

If the prophets are vulnerable to sins Allah should not have eulogized them. A statement of Iblees can be seen in Qur'an.- "Surely, I should lead them astray except your sincere slaves" (Surat Al Hijir 39-40). Imam Razi (R) wrote in the interpretation of this verse.

"Satan wrote off only the sincere people from the last of those whom he may misguide. The are prophets,. Allah has said about Ibrahim(A), Ishaque(A) Yahqoob(A) as he made them sincere and candid. About the Prophet Yusuf (A) Allah says He has been among our sincere and true slaves. If the sinless ness of certain prophet is proved at will pass on to all. No one say against it (Razi 3/9).

"They are selected ones to in order to subdue before Allah. Allah protected them from the realm of sin and mistakes" (Abu Su-ood. 1/452). Imam Razi(R) underlines in the interpretation of the verse in Surat Al Baqara that The above verse establishes the sinless ness of prophet in two way. It is known that the meaning of agreement in the verse is the leadership (Imamath). All the prophets are leaders. All leaders are an exemplary men. The most suitable man to be an imam is a prophet. It is transparent as the day light that if a disobedient cannot be an Imam , the prophet never becomes a committer of mistakes or a doer of sins (Razi 4/49).

Qur'an declares prophets infallibility beyond any shadow of doubt or rather the Quranic interpret it otherwise. It is really a matter of excitement that those always introduce the prophet in bad light don the attire of Islam.

Prophet (PBH) says 'Surely, I am the messenger of Allah I don't do any thing contrary to Him"(Bukhari 7/216).

Now it deserves mention the statement expressed by Abu Backer Sidheeque (R) about prophet which smashes all the pull of doubt into smithereens. He says, Assuredly prophet(S) is the messenger of Allah. He does not do against him(Bukhari 7/216). The discussion about the infallibility of prophets were held in a thoroughly manner. This is a small picture of it. For a deep study the readers are requested to take the Malayalam version of "Vishuddha Pravajakan" and the Arabic version of "Ismathul Ambiyau" written by Sheik Abubacker Ahmad for further perusal.
